“We Do Not Inherit Mother Earth From Our Ancestors, We Borrow Her From Our Children.” –Crazy Horse
The story of Somewhere Over the Rainbow is one we should all take to heart. It’s the story of using our brains, following our hearts and having the courage to pursue our dreams. The journey over the rainbow that leads to the pot of gold is in knowing that the pot of gold is in hand. The journey within unfolds the path that leads to the wealth we all seek but not at the expense of others.
For me that journey is this, that I am passionate about our environment, our home planet earth and everything that here resides along with us from the very deep oceans to the highest mountain peaks. It’s the only home we have. We know of no other place that even comes close to supporting life as we know it. So, it seems we would do whatever it takes to keep it environmentally safe for us to continue here.
We have the intellect to find the solutions needed to stop the present degradation of our planet. From the wealth of resources now available the heart is there. What we need to hone is our courage. We must stand up for our home. This has to be done with love, compassion and understanding.
Through advances in technology and communications this world once thought of as so very big is now known to be but a speck within a far greater scape that holds untold stories yet to be discovered. But those discoveries will be for another species unless we change our ways dramatically and soon. For as advanced as we may think we are, to be the best we can be, will require we take a few steps back to another time before all this technology when people considered the impact of their actions on the next seven generations before they took action. Understanding our place in this realm begins with taking care of the little patch of land we presently inhabit.
Perhaps this is a good time to remind us all we don’t have to do anything at all. Really! We can continue on as is, things will get better or worse. It doesn’t matter. The planet will continue on no matter what. At least until struck by a comet or other such thing. Earth has been around for a very long time before us and with any luck long after we are gone. No, this is not about saving the planet. This is about keeping our environment safe for us to continue on here as long as permitted. But the environment is not a happy puppy right now. It is starting to foam at the mouth and the vaccines are running low. grrrr
Being green, mindful of our choices and the impact those choices have can only bring about a better world. Not only for us in seeing what good we have done but also for those we have served by doing better like the next generation and the one after that. I don’t know about you but I like being here. Besides, what’s the alternative? My time will come in it’s own good time. When it does, I at least, will know that I did what I could with what I had…brains, heart and courage.
There are many souls, companies, environmental groups all around doing the legwork needed to turn our present situation around. One such organization with much to offer http://www.sundancechannel.com/home/ There are more links on the left sidebar. Just remember we really are in this together.
So, for us to succeed we all have to do our part. It really comes down to just changing our minds and asking “What CAN I do?” The answer is plenty! Speak your mind and walk the talk. But mostly have fun being a part of our renascence because…
…there’s no place like home, there’s no place like home, there’s no place like home.
The pot of gold is waiting for you.
“You may never know what results come from your action, but if you do nothing there will be no result.” Mahatma Ghandi
